The terrible Rasuwa Flood of August 2026 has made many international travelers to think whether to visit Nepal recently or not. Circulating images and videos of flooded roads, damaged infrastructures such as bridges, roads, buildings and suffering communities across the social media had created fear. Travelers from different corner of the world are in confusion whether it is safe to trek during Autumn season in Nepal or not.
Especially beginner trekkers who are willing to go on a trek in Nepal are getting difficult to understand these videos and images depict the situation of affected areas only. Many of them misunderstood that Rasuwa flood had affected entire country. Therefore, recent devastating flood has not affected all the trekking region of Nepal. What happened when the Rasuwa Flood hit?
On the 26th of August, tragic disaster caused heavy flooding and debris flows towards the northern Nepal. Rasuwa was considered as most badly affected area. Many people died, still some of them are missing and rescue operation is still ongoing as of September. Roads, bridges, building and other infrastructure were damaged very badly. Victims who survived from this disaster have become homeless and lost their loved ones.
Since, the disaster was so massive which naturally drawn the attention from the different countries towards Nepal. According to current report, only the affected areas have sustained serious damage of major infrastructure.
Rasuwa Food does not indicate that every trekking destination in Nepal were affected by disaster.
Rasuwa is just small part of Nepal
Geographically, Nepal is wide and stretches from east to west across the big Himalayan terrain. Major trekking region popular among people are far apart from each other by rivers, valleys and mountain.
The key trekking regions covered in this blog include:

- Rasuwa and Langtang Region

Is Annapurna Region affected by the Rasuwa Flood?
Annapurna region belongs to Marsyangdi and Kaligandaki rivers. Whereas Rasuwa flood corridor is associated with Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers. Therefore, geographically Annapurna Region and Rasuwa Food corridor are part of completely different river system which lies in different part of Nepal.
The road approaching towards Annapurna Region is entirely different from the road damaged in Rasuwa. Is Everest Region affected by Rasuwa Flood?
Everest Region is located at Eastern Nepal which is approximately 150 kilometers East of Rasuwa. It belongs to Dudh Koshi that flows into Larger Koshi River System covering Eastern Nepal. Likewise, Rasuwa Flood corridor belongs to Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers which are part of Narayani/Gandak system. Therefore, Everest Trekking route is not closed due to Rasuwa Flood.
The standard Everest Base Camp route navigates from Kathmandu to Lukla by flight, then begin trek through Phakding. Likewise, trek again continues through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche and finally reach to Everest Base Camp. - Kathmandu-Lukla flight is operating or not
- Weather condition of Everest Region
- Condition of Lukla airport

Was Manaslu Region completely unaffected by Rasuwa Flood?
Rasuwa Flood which was originated from the Bhotekoshi River system located in the Rasuwa District swept down the Trishuli corridor. Manaslu Region belongs to Budhi Gandaki basin and flood water do not directly pass through it. But due to heavy monsoon rain, caused Therang Khola to rise which flood the Namrung forest area of the Manaslu Circuit. This rain-induced flood is not associate with the Rasuwa Flood but damaged the major trekking infrastructures.
The Manaslu Flood of 6th, September 2026 has caused damage to trekking trails and swept away two hydropower projects, two suspension bridges and four houses. Moreover, the suspension bridges swept away by the flood were used to cross between valleys on the main Manaslu Circuit Trail. However, local villagers have constructed wooden bridge to reconnect the trail. Local authority also declared that route is open again. But Gorkha District still advise trekkers to postpone their trip until the next notice publishes regarding new bridge. Temporary wooden bridge would not act as resistance if the river water rise again.
What trekkers must verify before travelling?
As a responsible trekker, you must not panic and should not ignore the recent situation also. But Flood in Rasuwa does not affect the Trekking Region except the Langtang region. Since before your travel, you must:
Check your preferred trekking region condition
Do not just depend on the typical headline about Nepal and you must verify current status of your desired trek. For instance, if you are willing to go for Annapurna Base Camp Trek then you must check condition of Annapurna Region. Likewise, if you are interested for Everest Base Camp Trek then you must verify recent condition of Everest Region. Similarly, if you are planning for Manaslu Circuit Trek then you must check condition of Manaslu Region.
Check transportation situation
Roads are engineered surface which are specially designed for speed and low tolerance. Even single storm having ability to bring strong wind, heavy rain, flooding and landslide can crack, sink and wash away the road. So, it is recommended to confirm:
- Access of road heading to preferred trekking region
- Local jeep service
- Access to trailhead
- Domestic flights are operating or not
Check the weather conditions
From early September, withdrawal of the monsoon typically starts. In this period of time, rainfall and landslide might occur in some region of Nepal. Hence, it is highly recommended to check the weather condition of your desired trekking region.

Nepal has not closed trekking due to Rasuwa Flood. It is not good to assume Nepal is not safe for trekking just because of one flood region.
