Founder led trek
Nepal Trekscape never hire guide to trek in Everest Region. Since, Everest Base Camp trek is the most challenging trek as it covers an altitude of 5,364 meters from sea level. Founder and owner of Nepal Trekscape, Ajit Adhikari and Bunu Tamang are the experienced trekking guide. They have already led an independent trek to Everest Region several times. Acclimatization Protocol
Guides of Nepal Trekscape follow proven acclimatization protocol to train your body to adapt the environment of higher altitude. Acclimatization plays the significant role to make your trek successful and enjoyable by preventing higher altitude sickness. When we trek from Lukla (2,860 m) to Phakding (2,610 m) our body start adjusting to higher altitude. Here we walk in slow pace and stay hydrated which helps our lungs and heart to adapt lower oxygen level. Similarly, when we trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3,440 m), there is slight gain of altitude by 830m. Here also we walk in slow pace and take short breaks frequently. Next day, we stay overnight at Namche Bazaar to have nutritious dinner. Staying at same altitude, give our body time to acclimatize and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.
Walking from Namche Bazaar to Tengboche (3,860 m) continues acclimatization which contribute our body to adjust to thinner air. Similarly, Walking from Tengboche to Dingboche (4,410 m) our body needs extra time to adjust to environment of higher altitude. So, next day we stay overnight at Dingboche also to help our body to adapt higher altitudes gain. Again, walking from Dingboche to Lobuche (4910 m) we stay again overnight there. It helps our body to adjust to higher altitude before continuing to Gorak Shep and Everest Base Camp.
Hence, in this way founder of Nepal Trekscape have developed acclimatization protocol based on “Climb High, Sleep Low”, Hydration and Nutrition, Rest Days. This process helps our body to produce more red blood cells, increase our blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity. By the time we reach Everest Base Camp, our body is trained to adapt to higher altitude naturally.
Continuous Health Monitoring
Guides of Nepal Trekscape continuously monitor your health condition using oximeter starting from Namche Bazar. It is the acclimatization checkpoint. Above 3,000 meters, there is a risk of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), High Altitude Pulmonary Edema (HAPE), High Altitude Cerebral Edema (HACE). Oxygen availability is much lower than at sea level and your body will experience significant drops in oxygen saturation.
Guides use oximeter to detect falling oxygen saturation early to make timely decisions whether to rest or descend or ascend. Continuous monitoring oxygen saturation in your blood helps to know how well your body is adapting to lower oxygen availability.
They don’t just check once in a day but they check twice daily throughout your trek, every morning and every evening after your dinner. Sometimes, if they see you are feeling difficulty then they check your oxygen saturation frequently. Your health is their first priority. They will adjust your itinerary on the spot, oxygen saturation drops too low. Looking at your health condition, they will decide whether to add rest day or descend to lower altitude to prevent high-altitude illnesses.
Descend to Pheriche after overnight at Everest Base Camp
After spending one night overnight at Everest Base Camp, we will descend to Pheriche. There we can access to altitude doctor if we feel unwell for health checkup and consult with them. Why we choose Pheriche instead of Pangboche because in Pangboche we cannot access to medical service in case of emergency. But Pheriche is the home to the Himalayan Rescue Association Medical Post. Hence, other descend route never offer medical safety.
